Numerous employees were left in the lurch, with pay cuts all around. Small businesses that didn’t have the capital to form a digital wing or manage online operations suffered the most. Large businesses took a nose dive—but those that adapted to the changing digital circumstances with urgency actually gained even more during the pandemic.
2. Corona Beer Left on the Shelves
This wasn’t puzzling at all. When the virus is called what it is, it’s not going to do much for a brand named Corona. This was mostly due to people’s inability to disassociate the virus from the beverage company. Bottles were left on the shelves in all their glory. It truly was a spectacle to see people around the world associate the beverage brand with the virus. As widely known in marketing, consumers often connect a negative word with a brand. Since the virus was called “corona” (meaning “crown” due to its shape), the beverage-maker had to bear heavy losses and spend more to convince customers they had nothing to do with the virus. It was sheer misfortune how unlucky the brand was to have that name.
3. Nature Crept Its Way Into Civilization
With lockdown guidelines in place, humans stayed indoors to avoid contracting the virus. However, nature struck back. Areas that were once bustling with people lay empty. Our friends from the plant and animal kingdoms began reclaiming those spaces. Wildlife thrived without human interference. Species previously thought to be extinct were even rediscovered! It was no surprise that after decades of pushing animals deeper into forests, the absence of humans would invite them back into what used to be our space.
4. Mental Health Issues on the Rise
The lockdown led to increased mental health struggles for many, due to a range of factors. Job losses impacted livelihoods, and the prolonged isolation contributed to feelings of anxiety and depression. Mainly in the United States, people began stockpiling toilet paper—and the rest of the world was baffled. While it’s understandable to want to stock up on essentials, the disproportionate focus on toilet paper puzzled everyone. Why not rice or medicine? Why TP? We still don’t get it.
2. The Release of 3 UFO Videos
We always wondered about aliens, right? But no one expected the Pentagon to release evidence of actual Unidentified Flying Objects in the middle of a global pandemic. It’s even stranger how little attention this bombshell got. In any other year, it would’ve broken the internet. Maybe those extraterrestrials were just checking in on how we’re handling this global mess. Hopefully, we see more proof soon.
3. Masks Became a Fashion Accessory
In 2019, who would’ve guessed that protective masks could turn people into millionaires? Masks became essential, then fashionable. Brands and companies customized them, employees wore branded masks, and “No mask, no service” became a standard policy. Some countries even imposed fines for not wearing one. A trend that will likely continue until the virus is completely gone.
